Badger and I must be on the same wave length, I also did some bookmarks for tip rewards! Six bookmarks feature the ravens from the song, and the seventh is more of a song illustration.

These were super fun!! Hopefully folks will like them.

I can get these packaged up and sent to wherever this week! Sooj (or whomever) if an address can be PM'd to me I'll get those to you for the June show!

Bees are doing great so far! But it's going to be a while before they are in a project, so I decided to try my hand at making resin bookmarks! Here's what I have so far...

7 of the smaller bookmarks

4 of the smaller bookmarks

4 more of the smaller bookmarks

another 4 smaller bookmarks

9 of the larger bookmarks

6 of the larger bookmarks

4 of the larger bookmarks

4 more of the larger bookmarks

a small resin bookmark

a large resin bookmark

The ones with flowers in them are for me, just something I've always wanted to do. Each bookmark is adorned with a lovely silky tassel in a vibrant color, because you can't have a bookmark and NOT have a tassel, that's just nonsense! :)

These will be making their way to sooj once she's back home from Colorado and so should be in her hands well before the June concert window.

You guys like? Anything I can do better or differently?

love yas,
badger

Hey, cauldronites. :D  Those of y'all who've jumped onto the thing: the poll for the name of the new tier is closing in a few hours, and ALL THREE names are tied right now.  Please Please go vote if you can so I don't end up naming it Team Bold Bold Manticore Magnolia Velocipede or some Frankenword combo of same.

Next online show will be 8pm CDT on May 19, according to expressed preference. :)  I'll go schedule it shortly.  I'm a little nervous that I won't be settled into our AirBnB in time with the baby and the hubby and the (hopefully strong) wifi, so send a little magic out there for me for that, if you don't mind.

Heather Dale's new album is out and it's groovy.

Friday evening my "Girl from the River" song will be part of the Arts & Letters episode on my local NPR affiliate, KUAR FM at 7pm CDT.  Here's the promo, and I think we can all listen live at the website, too!  Host Brad is gonna do TWO episodes about Helen Spence, because he didn't want to try to fit it all into just one!  What a guy. :)  And yes, this is all rooted in the audiobook I am (still) producing.

Brad also embedded my song on the promo page (it's a slightly updated mix of the demo that I did just for this radio show), so scroll down and you can listen to it.  I'm in the company of Becca Mancari and Iris DeMent for this!

Hi everybody! I posted a little spring song and I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds. It's far from perfect and I'm still a bit uncomfortable with my voice, but I just had to get it out there. Let me know what you think!

Much love as always,

Hello, beloveds!!

I'm getting excited for tonight.  The sky just cleared up and it is a CRIMINALLY beautiful day, pollen clouds notwithstanding.  I gotta go tidy up the Pixiehouse before I let Leslie in there (ACK!! MUST CLEAN!!), but I wanted to post here and love on y'all very quickly since it's been a while.

I have posted Ari's coasters AND ALSO now TWO new batches of pendants from Michelle in CA!  She did more Persist Resist and Blooms, plus a whole set of pendants inspired by "Rootless", "Witchka", "Wonders", and "Cheshire Kitten".  They. Are. So. Glittery.

If I don't forget to mention it, I have a special announcement to make tonight.

If I do forget, here is the link.

Please please don't share or repost it elsewhere just yet, as I want to keep it to the inner circle until I make sure that I've figured out how to drive the thing properly.  Feedback is most welcome.

If you haven't heard Leslie yet and you'd like to get to know her a little bit before tonight, here is her website.

So I have had this idea forever... or at least as long as I can remember... to make the world's tiniest little ocean inside a really itty bitty bottle or something similar. Then resin came along and the idea was expanded to include inside an open bezel so you could see right through the resin.

Here's a quick shot of my messy worktable with a few prototypes. Any input would be very much appreciated!

the tiniest bit of the ocean, werable!

COASTERS!

OMG.  OMG fam.

Ari's coasters arrived yesterday.

They are the cleverest, the most adorable derivative work with lyrics all over them.  It's so delightful to see the choices Ari made and the ways certain lyrics inspired each one!

I have to decide how to price them for tip rewards, because I think they are priceless.  Aargh!!  But they're here, they're safe, and they're absolutely DELIGHTFUL.

fam, just a quick accountability post: I got slightly in the weeds with shipping out physical tip rewards for the last 2 broadcasts, but they're all on their way now.  I apologize.  Part of the trouble was that CW was SUPER LATE with payout from March 18, but that's no excuse.

I promise I'll try to do better at staying on top of it for future shows.  Thank you all for being as patient and supportive as you are.

Badger's honey arrived safely!  Yall, these little jars are SO ADORABLE.  The honey is shimmery in the light, and it tastes like heaven.

All jars were intact, thanks no doubt to badger's amazing packing job, though two out of the nine were super duper leaky and sticky.  I've cleaned them up and will share them with folks nearby so as to keep any more stickiness out of the mail, so that leaves seven to be offered as tip rewards.

Badger prepared these with love and care, and it's obvious.  I'm gonna go list them as rewards shortly, soon as I do a little Concert Window + Postage math.

Ahoy folks, Chris here. You look great today! Are you trying anything new, or do you always look that dapper?

Today I'll begin with a little bit about me:
My name is Chris Swiney, but I chose Chris Kobold as a pen name for my early writing career and it stuck. I'm 21 years old, 6'6" tall, and I've struggled with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for as long as I can remember (among other things). I tested well in school, but almost failed out of high school for never doing homework. I dropped out of community college because it wasn't rewarding or promising enough to justify me staying.

ADHD, as I've come to understand it, affects the reward pathways of the brain--thereby making a person more impulsive and less careful/calculating. Procrastination is a huge ill effect of ADHD, which makes me seem super lazy to people who don't get it. That really sucks, because there are lots of things I want to do in this life of mine.

Because of my mental condition, creating the things I want to create is a lot more difficult than I feel it should be. This is the case for innumerable artists of all creeds out there, I'm sure.

All this to say, I suppose, that no great artist ever became so without obstacles they had to overcome. If Beethoven was deaf and still made masterpieces of music, I can surely focus enough to make my own masterpieces.

You will too.

That's it for now, my brothers and sisters of this coven. I'd love to hear any stories you're willing to share regarding artistry, mental health, motivation, etc. as well as any encouragement you may have to offer. Thanks for hearing me out <3

Stay excellent, and happy Spring!
-Chris Kobold

Soooo, apparently this is a thing now...Renée discovered that some scammer left a comment on our FB event for the online show tonight, saying something like "I've got a ticket available and can't make it, text this number if you want it!"

Y'all let me know if you should happen to see anything like that in comments on any upcoming show, online or otherwise.  I appreciate it.

Just so everyone knows: I'm not planning to offer the coasters & the honey as tip rewards tonight.  NOT because I don't want to, but because I've been at Renée's house since last Thursday, rehearsing and singing with her and with the other Muses, which means I haven't seen the mail at my house since then (My MIL is watching mailbox, so don't fret).  I know y'all will understand, but I wanted to say something here to keep anyone from being disappointed during tonight's concert if possible.

I don't wanna offer the things being shipped to me until I have personally set eyes on the packages and contents to make sure everything got to me safely/unbroken.  Hopefully I can give another online show at the end of the month & offer those up at that time!  I'm determined to do so, just need to double check time and location.  I should know everything for certain this week.

Tonight will have some this-time-only Muses tip rewards available from all of us, and from Renée individually for sure, and I'm 99% sure from Ginger and from Lynda individually as well.  I'll get those listed on Concert Window before we kick off.  Show starts at 8pm!  I'll post a photo of our setup on social media.

It's been a sweet, lazy day so far here.  Jesse's in the thick of his 4th/5th month sleep regression, so the weekend was a little rough on me.  However, he's had one nap already today, and we both got a decent amount of rest last night.  His dad is here with me also, and they've been singing Zep, bouncing on the yoga ball, and watching science stuff on YouTube since he woke up from his nap.  I'm having late brunch: leftover bacon (I know, how often does THAT happen?) and blueberry pancakes, courtesy of my hostesses.

At [personal profile] legend_lure 's suggestion of "whatever art we've got", I grabbed a couple videos of my guitar practice yesterday, featuring plenty of sarcastic commentary.

I'm not that good yet -- I started playing in May of last year and haven't had much practice time thanks to college taking away all my free time and my hypermobile thumbs being painful. But hey, I can sort of figure out a couple of things, and I can guess at what notes belong when. (That's about where I am on violin and fife, too.)

Please note: I hate my voice like nobody's business, mostly because I'm currently unable to start taking testosterone due to *parents* (just watch the ending of Dawson's Christian practice). As such, all my carefully gained classical training is out the window in the past year and a half. But SOON. And in the meantime, I'll just spite the universe and sing.

Carpathia song lyrics here. (I have way too many filks and things that it'll take me years to actually put into a decent arrangement and practice. But this one, I know the first verse of, which is good enough for now.)

Heya folks, Chris here. I just wanted to send a tidbit of positive energy for you lovely fellows of mine <3

When we first thought up this cauldron of ours, we talked about how hard it is to find other creators like yourself to reach out to. It's important to know you're not alone out there in the mass of seemingly callous internet-goers. As Damh the Bard's song "Cauldron Born" goes...

"You feel so lonely.
Come with me and let me show,
There are others
Just like you."

When you create media for an invisible audience, it can be demoralizing to think that nobody wants to consume and interact with whatever you're putting out there. Odds are good that lots more people would like what you have to offer, but first you have to overcome the hurdles of being seen. Those hurdles suck. They suck a lot. They suck exponentially more if you never grew up trying to be the center of attention. I never liked a spotlight, but I know that it's par for the course with this whole musicianship thing. Oh brother does that make me nervous!

Take what you will from this, but ultimately I want you all to know that if you need even one person to see what amazing talents you have to offer, please post it here in the cauldron for us to see. We all know what it's like to expect harsh criticism, and we're all fans of s00j and others in her incredible community of empathetic, swell human beings. I guarantee you that there's always going to be one thing you absolutely nail with whatever it is that you create, and hearing that affirmation can make a world of difference in the way you see your work. If you post something you made, you'd better believe I'll be there to tell you every reason that the thing you made rocks! <3

Keep on keeping on, and don't you let the dream go down, go down...
-Chris Kobold

TL;DR: It's important to know that there are people out there who are bound like what you create. It's hard to be seen on the internet, but don't give up! We here at the Cauldron will support you in whatever creative ideas you decide to share with us. Much love! :D

As suggested, here is a very visible post for listing when things will be done, shipped, etc.

[personal profile] jtthomas has made 13 woodburned coasters, plus a gift. They will be shipped around 3/15.

[personal profile] badgergal has made jars of honey, plus a gift. There is also the possibility of Easter eggs.

I vote to make "current project" where we all post what we're working on for s00j tip rewards. I don't know how to make a sticky post though.. lil help?

Here's mine, and I'll add pics once I pretty them up: honey harvested from my very own bees! I'm offering nine four-ounce jars as tip rewards. The rest are for the Muses and I'll be sending those directly to them, just a general thank you for all the wonderful music and memories. I've got some pretty labels and very nice handwriting to finish them off and I'll post another pic once I've done so. Tonight though.. bedtime.

oh and for anyone thinking "honeybadger!" you should know that s00j said it first :D

Iowa honey from a honeybadger ;)
[personal profile] jtthomas
I got a bunch of coasters. You know, plain wood squares, rounded corners. And I took my pencil to fifteen of them ... and my woodburner to four of those. The rest will happen tomorrow, once it's light enough outside to see what I'm doing.

(My biological mother graciously allowed me to get a 24-pack. I have my eyes on another pack when I run out, this time hexagons.)

As requested, there are two alligator ones so as not to leave Betsy out of the creation. Pictures under the cut. (They are massive pictures.)

I wanted to share with you all a fun idea my hubby thought of when we were talking about me making things for s00j tip rewards. I was looking all over for cute lil gift boxes and he said, "You're missing the obvious..." and pointed right at an Easter display.

There were at least 15 different styles of little plastic eggs in every size and color under the sun. I was truly amazed... I told him I couldn't wait to tell y'all!

So take that as a heads up, you're gonna be seeing a lotta little plastic eggs!

Sorry I lapsed on updating this post for a while.  Gonna do better.
Baby Jesse did just fine at his grandparents' house overnight while I did my first evening show of the year at the beginning of this week!  So I will be able to sprinkle in some more regular evening shows now, in addition to some afternoon shows.  Still no plans to travel out of state before April, so it's all gonna be live from home-ish until then!  Whee!  And thank you all for staying involved!  We had good-sized crowds for both February streams, and some new viewers as well!

1. Crow Moon Tunes Online Concert!

Monday, March 9 8pm CST

Also known as the Worm Moon, the Sap Moon, and the March full moon. :)

2. Sunday Matinee online show!

Sunday, March 29 2pm CST

Lots to celebrate for this one: my first record's release anniversary, my Mom's birthday, slightly belated spring equinox, early April Fool's Day, and my first show away from home for the year a few days after!

Watch here.

Hello, m'dears. Soojy here.
I would have posted sooner, but laptop time only happens lately when baby boy isn't in my arms, and well... :D

Here is an official benediction to get excited and make stuff, as has been requested.

I am already so proud of you, and feeling so affirmed.

From my heart to yours,
from tasty brain to tasty brain,
if there are lyrics* and bits of my work
which light a fire in, or for, your maker-self,
know you have my blessing
to do the derivative, inspired thing.**

There is no sweeter exchange
than art which inspires art.
There is no more lovely synergy
that what this cauldron
is here to hold.

*if ever you need a clarification on what the actual words are in lyrics I have written, please do ask.

**and you are in no way required to donate things you make as potential tip rewards. Invited, yes, but not required.
